Trail Point 13 - WELLES PARK

Wells Park was so named on February 9, 1910 for American Editor and Statesman Gideon Welles who served in the Cabinet of President Abraham Lincoln as Secretary of the Navy.

What we have here

The Chicago Lincoln Avenue Trail began life back in 1973. It was established by the work of Boy Scout Troop 881 and Scoutmaster William G. La Fleur. This was the first trail of it's type and the first trail that offered a Braille patch that could actually be read.

The trail was established before the internet, and even before the creation of the 911 emergency system.

I have created this blog to give the trail an internet presence. I will post here all the original sites along the trail and the original written guide.

We are working to update the trail and bring the guide into the twenty first century. As the trail is updated I will update this blog until it provides an audio guide for a modern trail serving the communities and citizens of Chicago and anyone who desires to hike and learn.
